Dr Lee said she started her Dr Pimple Popper channel as a 'personal challenge' as she loved social media.
'I followed someone who did hair colour and I figured if he could have a million followers for his skill then I could too,' Dr Lee, who has more than 2.5 million Instagram followers, told FEMAIL.
'People are interested in learning about this kind of stuff, especially women, and they find it really interesting.
'2.5 years later and I am still growing and I still see it as this amazing, mind-boggling social experiment and I am in the middle of it just seeing where it takes me.
'I still haven't gotten used to it all... I've had people cry when they see me and I just don't see myself as special or a celebrity. It's so weird and still something I have to get used to.'
Dr Lee said it's been strange having such a broad following - with fans coming up to her wherever she may be in the world.
'I feel like I don't really deserve it but I'm learning how to be better at responding and interacting with people in public,' she said.
'It was weird for my husband when people came up to me in front of him for the first time because he's a dermatologist too... and he doesn't want to just be Mr Dr Pimple Popper.'
Although Dr Lee famously pops, squeezes and treats pimples and cysts on her channel, she urges people to leave their own pimple popping to the experts.
'Don't pop your pimples - there is a danger there as you run the risk of infection,' she said.
'I do think it's important to note though that there is a perfect time to pop them if you are going to do so and this is when there is a head - or pustule - on the pimple.
