Dramatic footage shows have-a-go-hero parliamentary assistant chasing vandal who threw a brick through window of Tory MP's Land Rover
This is the dramatic moment a brave parliamentary assistant chased after a vandal after he threw a brick through an MP's Land Rover.
CCTV footage shows have-a-go hero Chris Muspratt, who works for the Conservative MP for Romford Andrew Rosindell, smashing through a fence in pursuit of Kieron Nickles.
The chase, which happened in Avalon Road in the East London constituency, occurred during the General Election campaign earlier this year when Rosindell and his team were canvassing the area.
Nickles, 18, had been staying with his mother in nearby Highfield Road on May 15, when he was woken by a voice from a megaphone saying: 'Vote Andrew Rosindell, vote Conservative', the Romford Recorder reported.
'He [Nickles] believed it was a breach of the peace, and so picked up a brick from the garden, and put it through the window,' his lawyer told Barkingside Magistrates' Court this morning.
Luckily, no one was in the four-by-four at the time.
The court heard how Mr Muspratt gave chase before Nickles managed to escape.
Nickles, of Hillfoot Road, Collier Row, admitted causing £800 of damage to the car as well as £21.36 to the fence. He also admitted to breaching his youth rehabilitation order.
Nickles was handed a community order and was ordered to pay £300 in damages to Mr Rosindell, £21.36 to the owner of the fence and £170 to the court.
Speaking to the paper after the hearing, Mr Rosindell said: 'The most important outcome here was that the young man was caught and did not escape the law.
'While we were quite shaken, me and my team cracked on and finished our canvassing session that evening.'
