The All Blacks' new full baaaaa-ck Bruce the rugby-playing sheep head-butts the ball during warm-up drills with his owner

With Wayne Smith hanging up his All Black's coaching whistle at the end of the 2017 season, many thought he could never be replaced.

Luckily, Facebook has discovered the perfect replacement - a New Zealand sheep named Bruce who can handle a ball with the best of them.

A video of Maree MacDonald playing rugby with Bruce the sheep was viewed more than 106,000 times in the first three hours after it surfaced on social media.

Maree's daughter Tuscany MacDonald, who filmed the the two playing, said it all started when they were throwing to ball to their dog and Bruce decided to join in and chase the ball.

'We passed it to him and that's how we found out he likes to butt it with his head and would chase us around for it,' Tuscany told The Daily Mail.

'It's a great party trick, and definitely something to show visitors!"'

Bruce, 5, who lives on a farm in Rotorua, New Zealand, has been playing since 2013.

The video has attracted comments from many viewers who believe that Bruce is the future of New Zealand rugby.

'He's better than most Wallabies players, no doubt,' wrote one amused viewer.

Others believe that Bruce is the epitome of life in New Zealand, with one Facebook user writing, 'Is there anything more Kiwi that this?'

One thing is for sure - Bruce has solidified his fan base ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

'I hope your dreams come true one day mate', one fan wrote. 'Small sheep, big dreams.'
