Think you need an expensive laser treatment This anti-ageing cream may be the perfect alternative (and it’s under £25!)

All women dream of slowing the march of time, but it's easy to become sceptical about the claims of new products.

Without an endless pot of money, women are often confused about where to invest with their skincare and how to make sense of the minefield of product claims.

Many find products just don’t live up to expectations and even when you have found one that works, many of us believe their creams get less effective over time.

Often women are left thinking the only guarantee is drastic and expensive options such as laser treatments or fillers.

But this anti-ageing face cream is catching people's attention with its bold claims, and it has a clinical study to back them up.

L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renew Day Cream is an anti-ageing moisturiser that claims to rival laser treatments more than 20 times as expensive.

And while this may well raise eyebrows among women jaded by the mass of such statements in the beauty market, L'Oreal has carried out extensive independent clinical tests in an attempt to convince cynical consumers that this product actually works, and continues to work month after month.

They commissioned an independent dermatological institute to conduct a six month study on women with all types of skin from very dry to oily, and aged from 45-65.

The 97 women applied Revitalift Laser Renew Day Cream twice a day, and had monthly assessments by the dermatologist team.

The measurements showed strong improvements on key signs of ageing; wrinkles were significantly reduced, skin was much firmer and complexion was more even.

Etienne Camel, president of the Institut d'Expertise Clinique that conducted the clinical study, says: 'The dermatologist who graded the women month after month couldn't be influenced as we didn't even know the active ingredients of the formula, nor the brand for which it was tested.'

But a major bug bear of women who find a new product they love is that after the first few weeks use, the effectiveness seems to fade, sometimes even before you have reached the bottom of the pot!

Many beauty blogs and writers actively encourage women to switch up their products - from moisturisers to shampoos - for exactly this reason.

And while trying new formulas can be fun, it can become rather tiresome, not to mention expensive, scouring for new products and attempting to understand their claims.

L'Oreal hope that their clinical tests will reassure women that Revitalift Laser Renew Day Cream is different, and in fact continues to work month after month.

So what exactly do they claim is producing these notable results, which they are  comparing to the effect of laser procedures?

Whereas expensive laser treatments performed in dermatologists' offices and skin clinics work by firing laser light into the skin, L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renew Day Cream uses the patented anti-ageing molecule Pro-Xylane (3%).

The molecule , which was developed after 14 years of research, stems from a naturally derived sugar complex which is proven to stimulate collagen, promote skin regeneration, smoothe wrinkles and target the signs of photo-ageing.  Music to the ears of all us worried about ageing skin!
