'I'm gonna watch you sleep then kill you' Gunman posts chilling threat on Facebook then takes woman hostage as armed police evacuate street fearing he will spark a gas explosion

A gunman who has taken his girlfriend hostage and is in a standoff with police posted a chilling threat to Facebook hours before he barricaded himself in this morning.

Emergency services have evacuated Pemberton Way in Oldam, Greater Manchester and 200 homes nearby after fears the man was planning to spark a gas explosion.

The man named locally as Marc Schofield wrote: 'I'm going to watch you sleep then kill you' before allegedly barricading himself into his partner's home in Shaw.

The National Grid has joined armed police and the fire service on the scene this afternoon amid fears a gas pipe was deliberately cut.  Hundreds of residents and members of the public have been told to avoid the area.

The hostage has been named locally as mother-of-two Lisa Hurley, understood to be 27 years old.

Her brother described her as a 'dedicated mum' and said her two children, rescued earlier today, were taken to hospital and are being looked after by the family.

The couple are understood to be in a relationship and just two days ago, Schofield shared a photograph of her where they shared a joke over 'murder'.

He wrote, 'breathtaking'  and in the comments joked she was 'borderline rapable [sic]'.

He added: 'And that's only why I'm writing this in public, off record I'm getting a 7 stretch simple, haha.'

She replied that she would be getting 'life when I murder you', to which he replied 'sounds like a good night to me'.

Today Miss Hurley's concerned brother said he was worried about their relationship and terrified about the ongoing situation.

Rick Hurley said Lisa's two sons, six-year-old Charlie and Gabriel, eight months, were being looked after by family.

Mr Hurley, 32, said: 'We're all just hoping she gets out safely. It's terrifying for us.He's just started speaking to the negotiators so that's a good sign.

'They've been seeing each other for the last 12 months or so, against our family's wishes really.

'There's not an awful lot we can do right now. The police have just told us to keep away.

'Lisa is a dedicated mum. Her children are her world. She works part-time at Asda but everything is about her kids. My dad is here too and we're both worried sick. Everyone on the street has been giving us their best wishes for her.'

This afternoon dozens of police officers are surrounding the property which has a smashed first-floor window was clearly visible at the rear of the property, with a brown duvet or sleeping bag stuffed into the hole.

The gas supply has been cut off with 200 homes evacuated and the superintendent of the local constabulary said the situation is ongoing.
