Ed the superfan extra That mad Game of Thrones cameo was no one-off! Here we reveal how from Aussie soaps to US cartoons Ed Sheeran can't resist sneaking on to his favourite shows

With his baby-face looks and distinctive ginger mop, Ed Sheeran is hardly the type to blend into the background.

So when a flame-haired minstrel appeared during last week’s opening episode of Game Of Thrones, viewers were left in no doubt it was the British singer-songwriter.

While his dialogue was scant and the singing brief, superfan Ed was clearly thrilled.

But it’s not the first time the 26-year-old has tried to steal the show. Not content with millions of album sales, headlining Glastonbury and having a host of Brit, Grammy and Ivor Novello awards on his mantelpiece, it seems Ed just can’t resist joining in with his favourite shows.

Later this year he will voice a yellow cartoon alter-ego on The Simpsons, playing the boyfriend of Lisa. A delighted Ed took to Instagram to tell his 14 million followers his bit-part is ‘amazing and surreal’.

He has also cropped up on television shows across the world, including Home And Away in Australia, Shortland Street in New Zealand and as ‘ambitious but deadly’ Sir Cormac in US medieval drama The Bastard Executioner, which is actually filmed in Wales.

Ed also appeared alongside Britain’s favourite singleton in Bridget Jones’s Baby and, when not playing cameo roles, he can often be found at weddings, singing hits to overwhelmed brides and grooms.

The former busker even jokes on social media: ‘Available for weddings, birthdays and bar mitzvahs.’

So what comes next for Ed? A role in Shameless, perhaps?
